About

[Short bio]

For composer, vocalist, and improviser Esin Gunduz, sound originates in the body.  The recorded layers of her voice create ethereal atmospheres.  Her orchestration introduces an alchemy of vocal and instrumental tessitura.  Her treatment of text makes a case for the contemporary relevance of ancient folk materials from Sumerian tablets to Anatolian proverbs.

Ms. Gunduz had her works championed by mandolinist Avi Avital and Factory Seconds Brass Trio.  She collaborated in performances of her work with Ensemble Linea and members of the Talea Ensemble and Mivos Quartet.

Esin Gunduz holds a PhD in music composition from SUNY University at Buffalo.

[Longer bio]

For composer, vocal performer, and improviser Esin Gunduz, sound originates in the body.  The recorded layers of her voice create ethereal atmospheres in electroacoustic medium.

Her works have been performed at Resonant Bodies program at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Soundscape Festival in Italy, June in Buffalo and So Percussion’s Brooklyn-Bound series.

Esin Gunduz is fond of various ecologies of ensemble music and actively performs in a wide array of genres.  As researcher of vocal performance, her travels are aimed towards hearing and recording rare traditional sounds.  Recently working from her home studio in Buffalo New York and travelling frequently, she is a full time composer, vocal performer and improviser.

Ms. Gunduz is an adjunct professor of voice at Villa Maria College.  She holds a PhD in music composition from SUNY University at Buffalo.
